The Department of Zoology of Vidyavardhini’s A.V. College was established in the year 1972.
First Head of the department: Dr. Surlikar V.V

Current Head of the department: Prof. P.M. Pagare
The Department offers Undergraduate F.Y. B. Sc; S.Y.B.Sc. and T.Y.B. Sc Courses. The courses are conducted as per the guidelines of University of Mumbai. Department also offers Ph.D. in Zoology and recognised Research Lab having in-house research guide.

The department adopts diverse teaching- learning methods such as Lecture, chalk and boards, Chart and models, Workshop, counselling, viva-voice, Projector for PPT presentation, Home assignments, Unit tests, Projects and Field visits to make learning effective.

The faculty members very often attend workshops/Seminars /Webinars, FDP, Orientation and Refresher to keep themselves updated with the ever-changing world of education. The faculty members are engaged in the research and published and present research work in National as well as International Journals and Conferences.

  1. Prof. Dr. R. N. Jadhav(M. Sc; Ph. D)-
    He is on lien from 1 st March, 2022 because appointed as Principal in Loknete Gopinathji Munde Arts Commerce and Science College, Madangad..
  2. Prof.Mrs. Vaishali S. Khopkar (M. Sc)-
    She is Assistant Professor and faculty of zoology department. She is teaching since last 26 years.
    She has and continues to be an active member of various college committees such as NSS, Cultural committee, Women Development Cell, Admission committee, Discipline committee etc. She held a post of Programme Officer of NSS.
    She was very active member of the Admission committee and has played vital role in the process of Admissions of Science students.
    At present She is in charge of Book Bank Committee and is also convener of the same committee.
  3. Prof. Mr. P. M. Pagare(M. Sc; B.Ed.)
    He is assistant professor and Head of Department of Zoology. He has 25 years of teaching experience. He has done M.Sc. in Physiology from University of Pune and B.Ed. from University of Mumbai. He is pursing Ph.D. degree in University of Mumbai and his work is in progress.
    He has been active in various college committees such as Chairman of students’ council, Programme officer of NSS, Member of Unfair means committee, Discipline committee, Staff Gravinience cell etc.
    At present he is a member of IQAC Criteria No.1.

    He is Assistant professor in Department of Zoology having 08 years of teaching and 15 years of research experience. He has done M.Sc. in Zoology with specialization in Entomology from University of Pune, Pune and Ph.D. Degree in Zoology from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad.
    Actively participated various college committees such as Member of NSS, IQAC, Student aid committee, Attendance committeeetc.
    At present he is Co-Ordinator of IQAC Criteria No. 3: Research, Innovationand Extensions. Member of Campus development committee, Gymkhana / Sports, RUSA and Research cell, Science association committee and E-content development monitoring committee. Participated and contributed for “Peer- Review of University Books forF.Y.B. Sc; S.Y.B. Sc and T.Y.B. Sc Zoology”

    She is Assistant professor in Department of Zoology on Clock hours basishaving 8-month experience in this college.
    She has a 4-year working Experience in Other college, and 11 year working experience in coaching classes.
    She has done M.Sc. in zoology (endocrinology),for M.Phil. dissertation entitled“Effect of zncl 2 on lipedocephalic thermalis”.
    In Ph.D.dissertation entitle with “To Study Hydrological and EcophysiologicalAspect of Lohope Lake.” She has published Research papers in national and International journals.

The college has well equipped and spacious laboratories and Research lab with an area of 9872 sq.feet which is shared by the department of Zoology and Botany. The department provides internet facility, more than 700 slides, BOD incubator, Bacteriological incubator, Binocular microscope, Laminar air flow System, Nephelometer, Hemocytometer, Analytical balance, Centrifuge, Hot air oven, Autoclave, Distillation plant, Deionizer Rotary shaker, Cooling centrifuge, Spectrometer etc. department also having rare preserved animal bones, Brain model, Charts available for improving upgrade the knowledge and overall personality development of students.
