About Computer Science Department

The Department was established in the year 1999 with the main intention of introducing an undergraduate programme in computer science that was the need of the hour. With many Computer institutes mushrooming the overall growth of students in terms of technological updations.

The time had come to prepare and produce graduates in Computer Science trained in basic computing principles, Software Design, Database management, Network administration, Website developm ent.

Department has produced several software engineers, Software testers, Network engineers, and database designers over the last two decades. In the year 2005, the Postgraduate programme in Computer Science has been started by focusing on the research-based objectives.

The syllabus gets updated once in five years to help the students to meet and understand the changing dimensions of the technology. Industry-oriented related tools and technologies make them employable.

  1. Srimathi Narayanan: Completed more than two decades at Vartak College. Area of interest is Data Structure, Algorithm Design, Game Programming and Ethical Hacking. Awarded best teacher in the year 2014. Active participation in all college committee activities. Successfully handled the online exam system for the TY and PG courses.
  2. Greta Dabre: Has served the department for almost a decade. Her area of interest is Image processing, Android development, and database system.  She made a commendable contribution to the online exam system during the tough lockdown period.
  3. Pranita Vaze: Joined the department in 2015. Enjoys teaching papers like Computer Network, Python Programming, Web Programming and Cyber Security. A member of the college NSS committee. A quick learner and a good administrator. A very active member of the online exam technical team.
  4. Swetha Iyer: Serving the department since 2016. Adopts a practical oriented approach and has an affinity to technologies such as Data Science, Java, IoT, and Software Engineering. Spends her free time in the Mohini Attam dance form.
  5. Gyaneshwari Pawar: Recruited in the year 2017. She is our own Alumni. Her skill set includes technologies such as AI, and .Net in addition to programming languages and databases. Her hard work is her strength.
  6. Ishrat Gawandi: Serving the department last four years.Topper in the batch T. Y. B. Sc. 2016 and also in M.Sc (Mathematics) 2018. She Shows a keen interest in mathematics, statistical methods and Simulation. has equipped herself with the software tools such as Python, Java and R tool. A quick and sharp learner.


Students enter the portals of the college with a dream. They are disciplined, energetic and result oriented. They participate in all indoor and outdoor activities apart from the academic schedule. Students actively participate in workshops, seminars, and cultural and sports activities.

Every year on an average 45 UG and 15 PG students graduate from each batch. Students are well placed in the software industry earning a good pay package and harnessing their skills.

Departmental Activities

Adhering to the Academic calendar, the department Conducts an orientation programme for newly enrolled students. Department gives special attention to the completion of the syllabus on time. Workshops and seminars have been organised to upgrade the knowledge.

Department arranges an industrial visit to get practical and real knowledge to the students. It offers guidance to students for projects and internships.  All the faculties participate in the university exam actively and work in different capacities i.e. Moderator, Examiner both in theory and practical.

At the regular interval, the department arranges placement drives to recruit our students in the industry. Our staff give a valuable contribution to all the college committees.


The Computer centre has a well-established laboratory catering to the needs of undergraduate and postgraduate students. The internet facility is sufficient to handle day to day activities. The departmental library, though has less collection is effectively utilised by students.

Seminar hall is put to optimistic use during seminars and workshops. A compact staff room that accommodates all staff. An overhead projector is used during the presentation. Adequate cupboards to store student journals and project material.
